‘Party Down South’ Season 2 Rumors: Production Delayed On Reality Show As Cast Seeks $7,000 More Per Episode? [VIDEO]
CMT's new hit reality show Party Down South could find its anticipated second season in jeopardy, as a fight between the cast and producers over salaries continues.
According to TMZ, the cast of eight southern young adults who gathered in a Mullers Inlet, S.C. home to party during the first season, are threatening to strike if producers do not agree to increase their paychecks.
Though show reps reportedly claimed the wage war was over and the cast had all agreed to work on season 2 at a rate comparable to the $500 per episode they each earned in season 1, a lawyer for the cast has now sent a letter to CMT and 495 productions, saying the cast's original contracts were unfair, and those involved refuse to continue production on season 2 until they receive a pay raise.
The cast has reportedly sought an additional $7,000 each per episode, a figure the network absolutely refuses to agree to.
Now, show insiders are allegedly threatening to disband the cast's contracts and find new participants for the reality series if they continue to refuse heading back to work.
"It would be a shame for them to walk away from their big break," a show insider said. "Fortunately for the viewers, there are plenty of kids in the south."
The show, which was produced by the same person who brought MTV's breakout hit Jersey Shore to television, cast eight young Southerners to live in a vacation home as cameras rolled, and while the show did not have the same high ratings as Jersey Shore, CMT did announce that it was one of their best rated series ever.
The cast includes 31-year-old Josh Murray from Louise, Miss., 28-year-old Lyle Boudreaux from Lafayette, La., 33-year-old Ryan "Daddy" Richards from Orange Beach, Ala., 26-year-old Walt Windham from Frankfort, Ky., 21-year-old Lauren White from Pineville, La., 24-year-old Mattie Breaux from Gheens, La., 23-year-old Taylor "Lil Bit" Wright from Rockingham, N.C. and 25-year-old Tiffany Heinen from Eunice, La.
While fans will have to wait for news about a potential season second, they can catch the season 1 finale tonight, March 20, at 10 p.m. ET on CMT. Check out a preview clip for the episode below.
