As Week 2 of Dancing with the Stars came to a close, the series kicked off their elimination rounds by saying goodbye to two sets of hopefuls.

Thanks to the season 17 decision to forgo results episodes, competitors are now eliminated based on their previous week's performance. Unfortunately for long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad and former NHL player Sean Avery, premiere week didn't go very well for them and both celebrities received the ax on Monday night.

Nyad, who was paired with Henry Byalikov, received a mere 18 points during the couple's Week 1 foxtrot set to Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea and was not scored on their Week 2 cha-cha-cha. Avery, on the other hand, did get scored for his Week 2 salsa with Karina Smirnoff but it was little improvement over his premiere score of 20.

Surprisingly, actor Billy Dee Williams and partner Emma Slater were not eliminated despite only scoring a 15 on their Week 1 cha-cha-cha. Unfortunately for Williams, he will probably be shown the exit during next week's episode after receiving the same low score during Week 2.

On the other end of the spectrum, Olympic ice dancer Charlie White and his partner Sharna Burgess continued to impress the judges. The pair received a 27 during the premiere, and their Week 2 tango resulted in a score of 25 (see video below).

Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
