Doctor Who fans were treated to the Eighth Doctor's regeneration sequence during "The Night of the Doctor," but the 50th Anniversary mini-episode has left many wondering if Paul McGann will ever revisit the TARDIS again.

The Eighth Doctor appears on over 70 Doctor Who audio productions, but McGann has been sadly underutilized during the sci-fi series' TV run. After appearing as the Doctor in one 1996 made-for-TV movie and then hibernating until the Steven Moffat penned minisode nearly 17 years later, McGann still holds a vast amount of potential for the franchise.

Luckily for Whovians, the British actor hasn't ruled out the possibility of a future appearance.

"If the same thing were to happen again and Moffat were to say 'Would you come back and do it and I'll write it?' Why wouldn't I want to do it?" McGann told Yahoo! TV UK. "If it's going to be that quality, why wouldn't you want to do it?"

However, viewers shouldn't get their hopes up for a season 8 return.

"There's always all kinds of rumours. Doctor Who is like a rumour mill, isn't it? 'Yea, McGann is gonna do this, Matt is gonna do that, there's going to be a spin-off, blah blah blah'. Of course it's all b****cks because it's Moffat who decides what they're going to do next," McGann said, according to Yahoo! TV UK . "And of course, now you've got a new Doctor in Peter Capaldi - I think it's only fair that he gets a decent run on his own without any distractions so he gets his feet under the table."
