The clip is part of a bonus feature on the DVD and Blu-Ray of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which released on April 8.
The scene where Bilbo Baggins has to combat the terrifying spiders of Mirkwood, was inspired of director Peter Jackson's own fear of the creepy-crawlies. The director talked about how he translated that fear on to the big screen.

"This time 'round in Mirkwood, I was able to do webs and nests," Jackson said. "When I'm in a garden, and I see a spider's nest in a bush, it kind of freaks me out. I can just imagine thousands of little, tiny spiders sort of breeding in there, and one day they're all going to come out."
Visual effects superviser Eric Saindon, corroborated the story by adding how Jackson's vision guided that scene.
"The sequence is pretty creepy. Pete's an arachnophobe, so these spiders creep him out as much as the audience," Saindon said. "He tries to push it like the spiders are in the theater with you."
The film will be available in a variety of packages which will also feature a limited collector's edition set for $105.43, a Blu-ray 3-D combo pack for $44.95, a Blu-ray combo pack for $35.99 and a 2-disc DVD special edition for $28.98.
Only 25,000 pieces of the collector's edition will be available in the U.S. and will include two Gates of Erebor replica bookends and a theatrical version of the film in 3-D high-definition, high-definition and standard definition.
The last film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will hit theaters on December 18.
