‘Indiana Jones 5' Movie: Shouldn’t Be Made As Franchise & ‘Should Have Stayed In The 80s?’ [VIDEO]
Though rumors of an upcoming Indiana Jones reboot starring Bradley Cooper have been repeatedly squashed, one website is now urging that Disney not put out any new films in the franchise at all.
Bradley Cooper 'Cracking The Whip' As Next Indiana Jones?
LifeHacker.com published an article on April 7 which referred to five rumored movie reboots that they felt should be squashed, including Indiana Jones.
Rumors flew last month that Disney was going to work on a fifth film for the series after releasing the J.J. Abrams-helmed Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015. However, it was also rumored that the studios were considering hiring a new, younger actor to take over the lead role from Harrison Ford, because it was believed the actor would be too old to truly commit to the part.
Bradley Cooper Not Starring In New Indiana Jones Movie?
The rumors started after Latino-Review published a claim that stated a new movie was likely in the works after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, and therefore, all rights to future Indiana Jones films. They reported that American Hustle star Bradley Cooper was rumored to be taking over the role from Ford, and that Walking Dead writer Frank Darabont had already approached execs with a story for a fifth film.
Darabont, however, debunked the rumors, saying he has never approached anyone with a story.
"This is an internet rumor with not a shred of truth to it. I have not pitched an idea for a proposed Indiana Jones movie, not has anybody approached me with such an idea. The inaccurate report on Latino Review was the first I'd heard it," he said.
Now, according to Life Hacker, the idea of either making an Indiana Jones 5 with Ford, or rebooting the franchise with Cooper would be a bad idea.
"The fourth movie clearly proved that Harrison Ford is far too old for these shenanigans-watching him puff about in his 80s would just be embarrassing," the site said. "On the other hand, placing somebody younger in the same iconic hat would just feel wrong. This is a franchise that should have stayed in the 80s."
The Indiana Jones franchise thus far consists of four films: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).
