Katy Perry Divorce: Singer Did Everything She Could to Save Her Marriage
Katy Perry, who still believes in love, opened up about her divorce from Russell Brand saying she tried everything she could to save the marriage.
Perry, 27, is promoting her upcoming concert documentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me," which sheds light into her divorce, a topic that she has been mostly quiet about until this week.
"The truth is I'm a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale... I did everything I could but it still failed," she said, according to Us Weekly. "The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work."
During her marriage, Perry told her management team that she didn't want to go more than two weeks without seeing Brand, the magazine reports.
"She often flew to wherever he was working to spend three or four days with him," the magazine says citing a member of the singer's team.
But apparently, as time went on, traveling became more problematic for a busy Perry.
While promoting the movie this week, Perry also made clear that she wanted to handle her divorce appropriately in the film.
"Everything has to be handled with integrity and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room," she told MTV.
She also felt it was the right thing to do to include this aspect of her life into the movie.
"I think that if you went to see the movie and it was completely avoided you come out of that theatre going, 'Hmmm...That's strange, I know something else did happen at that time in her life last year," she told Jay Leno.
Perry and Brand called it quits in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
