Red John is coming back to haunt Patrick Jane on The Mentalist.

Will Lisbon Move To DC With Pike? What About Her Partnership With Patrick Jane?

The FBI may have dropped the charges against Jane (Simon Baker) for murder of the well-known serial killer, but a grand jury will reopen the case during "Il Tavolo Bianco."

For five and a half season, Jane (Simon Baker) hunted the serial killer that murdered his wife and child. When the faux psychic finally caught up with his nemesis in November's "Red John," Jane left him dead in the grass while he absconded to South America (see video below). After a lengthy battle with Agent Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar), Jane found himself in the clear during "Green Thumb."

'The Mentalist' Cast Weighs In On Possible Cancellation, Should Series End Without Jisbon?

By time episode 20 rolls around, however, all of Jane's hard work may come to naught. Not only could he find himself standing trial for the old murder, Lisbon (Robin Tunney) will still be considering joining Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal) in D.C.

"You can't go around killing people willy-nilly without some sort of ramification," said series creator Bruno Heller in November, according to TV Line.

If fans though those ramifications had come and gone, they were sorely mistaken.

The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
