NCIS: Los Angeles is working on a two-part season finale/premiere combo, and that's a sure sign fans will be left hanging in suspense over the upcoming summer hiatus.

Filming for the Larry Teng-directed season 5 finale began filming on April 9, but director Dennis Smith then headed into pre-production for episode 601.

"Starting prep #NCISLA today," Smith tweeted on April 10. "Got a very exiting script for the next season's premier. This episode is going deep!"

While the title of the season 5 finale was never announced, a latter tweet by Smith has revealed that episode 523 (airs as episode 524) is most likely called "Deep Trouble: Part 1."

"#NCISLA script "Deep Trouble part ll" written by Scott Gemmill. Almost shooting and boy, it's a movie :-)," Smith told his followers on Tuesday.

Unsurprisingly, R. Scott Gemmill ("War Cries," "Impact") is the mastermind for "Deep Trouble: Part 1" as well. Currently on day 6 of shooting, the last episode before the long summer break is expected to contain quite a few shockers.

"Started shooting the season finale today. R. Scott Gemmill wrote a beauty. Lot of stuff I did not see coming," tweeted Miguel Ferrer (Granger) following a read-through.
