American Idol's Top 7 were given the chance to trip up their opponents this week during "Competitors' Choice."

Judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. were given the chance to see some of the season 13 hopefuls pushed to their limits on Wednesday night. With competitors picking songs that highlighted their opponents flaws, many performers were pushed out of their comfort zones as the competition heated up on the Fox series.

Caleb Johnson was first to take the stage on Wednesday, saddled with a track chosen by Alex Preston. Fortunately for Johnson, Kings of Leon's Family Tree was right up his ally and he earned praise from Urban for being such a "dynamic performer."

CJ Harris, who performed John Mayer's Gravity (chosen by Johnson); Alex Preston, who sang Ed Sheeran's The A Team (chosen by Dexter Roberts); and Jena Irene, who took on Radiohead's Creep (chosen by Meuse), also received positive reviews from the panel.

Jessica Meuse didn't fair quite as well, however. Sam Woolf picked out Miranda Lambert's Gunpowder & Lead for the Alabama native, but Meuse turned out an off beat and unexciting rendition of the country tune.

Meanwhile, Roberts and Woolf both were admonished for their takes on Luke Bryan's Muckalee Creek Water and David Gray's Sail Away, respectively.

Check out Johnson, Harris, Preston, and Irene's performances below.

American Idol will return to Fox on Thursday for a 9 p.m. ET results show.
