'Supernatural' Season 9: Jared Padalecki Against Having Angels On The Show? Find Out What Sam Winchester's Actor Has To Say [VIDEO]
Supernatural's angels may be experts at kicking feathered butt and taking names, but the heavenly warriors almost didn't make it into the Winchester's battered notebook of paranormal baddies.

The hit CW series kicked off its nine-year run with a host of haunting and possessions, delving deep into demons and all the creepy crawlies that go bump in the night. As the writers burrowed further into the biblical lore surrounding demons, however, the idea of introducing angels was broached with the cast - and there were some who were feeling less than enthusiastic about the idea.
"It used to be about guys on the road hunting urban legends," Padalecki recently explained to The New York Times. "And then angels came in. We're like: 'We didn't sign up for a religious show. I don't want to make a statement on angels. I came to do X-Files.' But it's kept on finding new ground."

It's lucky someone talked the actors around, or fans would have never met Castiel (Misha Collins). The socially awkward, leadership-adverse, gravely voiced angel has opened up an entirely new dynamic on the series, and it's one fans seem to love.
"The biggest tipping point was the introduction of angels," said executive producer Robert Singer, according to The New York Times. "It seemed to be a natural place to go once we'd gone so far into demon stories."
While Padalecki now seems perfectly content with the way the series has developed, Sam Winchester may no longer be too keen on angels - not after having one use him as a meat suit for half a season.
