'Avengers 2' Joss Whedon Wants A 'Genuinely Disturbed' Ultron To Provide The 'Unexpected' [VIDEO]
Joss Whedon has a new baddie to torment his Avengers with, and the Avengers: Age of Ultron director is delighted with how his robotic villain is turning out.
The Avengers writer/director previously pitted Earth's Mightiest Heroes against an Asgardian trickster, but the world has not rested in the wake of the Battle of New York and a new evil is on the rise. Ultron (James Spader), who appears to be an accidental creation of Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.), will apparently give the newly expanded Avengers team a run for their money.
"I'm having a blast with Ultron," Whedon told Empire. "He's not a creature of logic - he's a robot who's genuinely disturbed. We're finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is."

Luckily, Spader seems to be the perfect casting choice for Whedon's latest antagonist.
"We love Ultron from the comics, and have always loved Ultron, and at no point do we want him to just be a robot," explained Kevin Fiege, Marvel Studios' president of production, according to Movies.com (via Comic Book Movie). "We want him to have an extreme personality and attitude, and James Spader is doing an unbelievable job. Again, for us it's always about subverting expectations. Whenever you think you know what's coming next, we surprise people or deliver it in a slightly unexpected way. And Spader is doing that with Mr. Ultron."
Age of Ultron will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
