‘How I Met Your Dad’ Spoilers: Meg Ryan Casting Indicates Show Will Be A ‘Perfect Hybrid’ Of Actress’ Most Famous Romantic Comedy Movies? [VIDEO]
With news that Meg Ryan has officially been cast to star as the disembodied voice of CBS' How I Met Your Mother spin-off, theories have run wild about how exactly the new show will utilize the massive talent it has scored.
Meg Ryan Cast in 'HIMYM' Spin-Off Series?
The most popular theory, cultivated by E! News, appears to be that Ryan was cast for How I Met Your Dad because the show will ultimately set itself up to be a "perfect hybrid" of Ryan's three most iconic films -- When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail.
E! even claims to have evidence that this is so by listing nine clues that could indicate that the new show will try to honor the work Ryan has done in the past.
The biggest hints, they claim in an April 24 article, are that Ryan's character is the older version of star Greta Gerwig's Sally -- and that one of the two potential love interests for the character in the pilot have a vague connection to the character Ryan portrayed in You've Got Mail. Nicholas D'Agosto will be portraying the role of Frank, an IT guy who has a thing for Sally, and in the movie, Ryan's character broke up with a writer named Frank before turning to Tom Hanks' character for comfort.
Other "clues" include that all three of Ryan's big movies had ties to New York , which is where HIMYD is set and will film if it is picked up for a full series commitment. The fact that the show's BFF character is not a fan of Sally's ex-husband in the first episode, and the ending of When Harry Met Sally, which saw the couple re-telling their love story, are other possible hints that everything will be connected.
While the possibility of a connection to Ryan's work is possible, the show would not be a prelude to any of the films, which were set in the 1980s and 1990s. Much like How I Met Your Mother, Ryan will be telling the story from a distant future, and looking back on her past-which happens to be the present-day.
It wouldn't be the first time a theory would be proven correct. Fans long predicted the How I Met Your Mother series finale would feature the Mother character's death, as well as a possible reunion between Ted and Robin as well.
