It has long been rumored that Peter Capaldi's time in the TARDIS will be a little different than what Doctor Who fans are used to, and upcoming guest stars can now confirm that the Twelfth Doctor is taking the series in a whole new direction.

Can Robin Hood's Bow & Arrow Stop A Spaceship On Doctor Who?

Tom Riley recently dropped by the Who set for a stint in the Mark Gattis penned "Robots of Sherwood" episode, and the Da Vinci's Demons actor has already opened up about Capaldi and his new role.

"I think Peter's going to completely revitalize the show - not that it needed revitalizing," Riley told Flicks And The City. "He's going to bring something completely different to the Doctor. When you change a lead actor, everything's going to change - but you can rest assured he's going to absolutely smash it."

Will Matt Smith Cross From Doctor Who to Sherlock?

Riley's hints about showrunner Steven Moffat's move to a very different Time Lord line up with previous statements from Gattis.

"I saw a little of Peter Capaldi in action and he is wonderful," Gattis explained to Adorocinema (via Doctor Who TV). "I think it will be very exciting for everyone, because it is a more dangerous, more urgent Doctor. It has a side of crazy."

Although fans will have to wait until later in the year to catch their first real glimpse of the Twelfth Doctor in the season 8 premiere, Whovians can get a behind-the-scenes look at the filming for "Robots of Sherwood" by clicking the video below.
