Patricia Arquette is joining the CSI team as the female lead of Cyber, a potential Crime Scene Investigation spin-off that will receive a backdoor pilot in "Kitty."

A criminal behaviorist versed in the inner workings of the Internet, Arquette's Avery Ryan will pair up with D.B. Russell's (Ted Danson) Las Vegas crew on April 30 in order to solve a murder that has its roots deep in the cybercrime world.

The tech-savvy investigator will make Russell feel just a tad obsolete when she sweeps onto the scene with an air of entitlement and a vast knowledge of what goes unseen in the electronic era, according to TV Guide.

As the highly successful CSI franchise prepares to debut its newest whodunit endeavor, series creator Anthony Zuiker took a moment to explain why the CBS-based show decided to veer away from the formula that provided the framework for CSI: New York and CSI: Miami.

You can't pick up The New York Times right now without seeing an article on cybercrime," Zuiker explained to TV Guide. "It's pretty frightening and hard to believe what people can pull off nowadays, but it's nothing compared to what our world will be dealing with in five years. What will extortion and bank heists be like in the future? What will hit men be like? Crime will be amplified in ways we can't imagine."

Fans can get a feel for Cyber and Ryan in the "Kitty" sneak peeks below before seeing the full backdoor pilot this Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
