Agents of SHIELD's Grant Ward has a mysterious past, one that became even more intriguing following the unveiling of his double agent status. Fortunately for fans, the story of Ward's youth will be thrust into the spotlight during "Ragtag."

Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is convinced no one is born evil, and a look at Ward's (Brett Dalton) early exchanges with Agent Garrett (Bill Paxton) may prove him right. While the duplicitous agent confessed to Skye that he tormented his younger brother on his older brother's orders, a preview for "Ragtag" makes it look as if Garrett was the one who pushed him even further.

"We feel like Ward is showing all these different colors, and we thought it might be fun to show how Ward became Ward," explained Jeffery Bell, a SHIELD executive producer, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Nothing definitive, because we're still driving towards our conclusion with Deathlok and Raina and Garrett and Quinn and our cavalcade of bad guys, but Ward really is front and center in this episode. And showing his relationship with Garrett, and how that was shaped over the years, was really fun.

As Ward's teenage history plays out in flashbacks, viewers will get to see the Clairvoyant's HYDRA lineup come out of the woodwork. Coulson (Clark Gregg) and May (Ming-Na Wen) will infiltrating Cybertek and Garrett probably won't be too pleased (see photos above).

The two teams are about to go head to head, and Ward will have to figure out where his loyalties truly lie.

Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Click the video below to see a preview for "Ragtag."
