Alec Baldwin is set to play a mobster in the revival of the hit play "Orphans" when it returns to Broadway next year, according to the New York Times.

The two-time Emmy award winning actor will play a rich mobster named Harold who is kidnapped by two orphan brothers who are thieves from North Philadelphia.

"I have dreamed, for a long time, of doing this play with this director," Baldwin said in a statement. "It's an honor to work with Dan Sullivan in Lyle Kessler's 'Orphans'."

"Orphans" was written by Lyle Kessler and will be directed by Daniel Sullivan.

The roles for the two brothers have not been cast yet, according to the report.

The play will open at the Shubert Theater next spring shortly after Baldwin has completed taping episodes for the hit NBC show "30 Rock" for its seventh and final season.

"Orphans" debuted in Los Angeles in 1983, where it won several awards and had an off-Broadway run in 1985 at the Westside Arts Theater in New York City. It was made into a movie in 1987, starring Albert Finney and Matthew Modine.

Baldwin has appeared in four previous plays on Broadway over the last 25 years - the last one was "Twentieth Century" in 2004 and was nominated for a best actor Tony Award in 1992 for his performance in "A Streetcar Named Desire" with Jessica Lange.

Baldwin had some off-stage drama earlier this month when he punched a photographer who was taking his picture in New York City.

Baldwin later joked about the incident with David Letterman on his "Late Night" show.

But the actor has had other public rants. In December of 2011, Alec was waiting on an American Airlines flight in Los Angeles, and playing Words with Friends on his phone. When instructed to put away the "electronic device" by the stewardess, he reportedly became belligerent, and was eventually removed from the plane. He later publicly apologized, though only to the passengers for the delay he caused.

Baldwin also made a guest appearance on NBC show Saturday Night Live making fun of the incident by posing as the captain of the plane he was removed from.
