The Caped Crusader may still be a traumatized boy in Gotham, but the city is as dark and dangerous as ever in the series' first preview.

As the new Fox venture opens, Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) parents have been gunned down in an alley and the future Batman has nothing but Detective Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) promise that their murderer will be brought to justice.

Unfortunately for Gordon, his investigation and friendship with the only surviving Wayne will be plagued by the layered corruption of their city, soaring crime rates, and a new batch of up-and-coming baddies.

Just as Batman has yet to don the cape and cowl, there are several other Gotham residents who are only just starting to create mayhem when Gordon first crosses their path. A young Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), and Poison Ivy (Clara Foley) can all be seen exercising their sly and creepy abilities in the new promo.

If the 2-minute glimpse into Gotham has you more than excited for the series premiere, than the fact that Fox has officially picked the Bruno Heller project up for a 13-episode run should come as welcome news.

Gotham will air on Fox later this year.
