R Kelly Silent on Sex Tape and Marriage to Aaliyah in Autobiography
If fans were eagerly anticipating the arrival of R Kelly's autobiography to finally hit book store shelves, they will be fairly disappointed with its contents.
R Kelly's released his autobiography "Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me" this week, some three years after it was first announced by publishers. Although he vowed to be honest and clear in it - as that tends to be the norm when writing a memoir - he excluded details on the infamous sex tape that almost sent him to prison.
There is also no mention of details on his marriage to the late singer Aaliyah, whom Kelly allegedly married when she was 15, according to the Associated Press.
The details of their relationship have always been the subject of intense speculation and scrutiny, though it was assumed R Kelly would use the book as a platform to tell his side of the story.
The super edited version of his autobiography instead includes details of his music career, his rise to fame and his life as a performer touring the world and living large.
The sex tape that sent him to court was delivered anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times on Feb. 1, 2002.
That tape was then turned over to Chicago police, resulting in an investigation and his trial on child pornography charges in June 2008, where he was acquitted.
"Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me" has a publication date of June 28 and is available for ordering in stores.
Amazon, however, still lists the book as not yet released and is taking pre-orders only; the e-book version will not be available until Aug. 12.
R Kelly was struck down with a "medical emergency" this week, resulting in him being unable to attend his own book launch in New York.
He was also ruled out of an appearance on Jimmy Fallon's late night talk show and the 'Today' morning show.
