It seems like female fans of True Detective's second season could be in for a pleasant surprise as certain details hint towards the show acquiring a feminist tone for its next chapter.
New Actress In The Running For Lead Part In Detective Series?
While the critics heaped praise on the first season of True Detective the HBO detective series was also deeply criticised for the way it treated its female characters. From Salon stating that the show had a "woman problem," to Flavorwire tagging it as outright "mysoginist." The most devastating blow came from the New Yorker which called it "macho nonsense."
It could be possible that Nic Pizzolato took note of the criticism and hopes to rectify it with the next season. Enstars picked up on a few facts that could hint at this change in attitude. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pizzolato said that the basic idea behind the second season was "hard women, bad men, and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system."
What We Know About The Plot And Casting So Far
Would that mean that the detectives would be "hard women" fighting the "bad men." The talk of various female cast members being considered to play lead parts also seems to corroborate this fact.
Enstars reported that Kate Mara and Ellen Page have also been added in the stars being considered for roles and now it seems like Emma Stone has gone and upped the competition by stating that she would be very keen on nabbing a part in the HBO mini-series second cycle. In an interview with Vogue, Stone was also clear about who she'd like for a partner, Kristen Wiig is her pick.
Story Won't Be A Murder Mystery This Time Around?
The first season of the show which was a critical success starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in the lead roles as a pair of detectives who return to an unsolved case about a ritualistic serial killer after around a decade.
