Agent Lisbon is quickly slipping away from Patrick Jane, and the faux psychic will have to open up if he wants to avoid losing her forever.

Lisbon Waiting For Patrick Jane To 'Declare Himself' [VIDEO], What Are Odds Of Jisbon In 'Mentalist' Finale

So, what's standing in Jane's (Simon Bakers) way as the season finale approaches?

"Everything seems to be good, and then suddenly the girl that I like to stand next to has these "demands" upon my character to give more of himself," Baker explained to TV Line. "That's a part of it. It's also that Jane is a broken toy. He looks like he's gotten to be OK, but really, he's not functioning completely. I guess Lisbon's wondering and hoping whether or not he ever will function again, and he's looking at her, thinking, 'She's going to walk away, and I can't fix myself. I've forgotten how to give of myself and surrender.'"

Luckily for Jane, the season finale won't be his last chance to establish a romantic relationship with his long time friend. The CBS drama has been renewed for a seventh season, and Jisbon shippers will decide next Sunday if they will be anticipating or dreading the next season premiere.

"It's the whole Moonlighting theory that comes into play with long-form TV," Baker said of the series' previous decisions not to ignite a romance between their two main characters. "It goes on, and sometimes on and on, and do you give the audience what they want, or do you keep the flirtation and tease going? Is that really what they want, is that what they like - to want something?"

On May 18, viewers will find out if The Mentalist is planning on keeping them in suspense or if there is a moment - however brief - where a Jisbon happily ever after could seem like a possibility.

The Mentalist airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Click the video below to see a preview for "Blue Birds."
