Andy Murray stunned tennis fans on Saturday after a dramatic win at the 2012 Wimbledon tennis championships Saturday.

But his victory also draw complains from other fanatics as it ended 2 minutes past the time limit established for the tournament.

The British player defeated Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 7-5 3-6 7-5 6-1 in a race against time. The game finished at 11:02 p.m.

According to the rules, at 11 p.m. play must always stop on the Centre Court at Wimbledon, no matter what the score. Murray made history today by winning as it became the latest ever finish the tournament.

"I was under the impression I was stopping at 11 (23:00 BST) regardless of what the score was - even if it was in the middle of a game. I am obviously glad I managed to get the finish. The atmosphere at the end was excellent," Murray told the BBC.

Had he not win, the players would have to play again Monday.

Some fans raved about the match on Twitter and Facebook:

Despite the critics, Murray secured his place at the fourth round. He will play against Marin Cilic from Croatia on Monday at 1 p.m. local time (8 p.m. EST.)
