'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: Why Was Jisbon Not Addressed Sooner? Simon Baker & Robin Tunney Explain Relationship Ahead Of Finale [VIDEO]
The Mentalist's Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon have been working side-by-side for six seasons, but the CBS drama is only just starting to address pair's possible romantic feelings.
As the faux psychic and his FBI companions prepare to make a move - for better or worse - during the upcoming "Blue Birds" finale, Simon Baker (Jane) and Robin Tunney (Lisbon) have voiced their opinions as to why the series didn't explore Jisbon earlier.
"It would've been really inappropriate during all the Red John stuff," Tunney explained to The Hollywood Reporter, referencing Jane's overwhelming grief for his dead wife and child as well as his single-minded determination to catch their killer.
"There also wasn't any room in the show to do it properly," Baker said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The transition to the FBI has been able to give us room structurally in the story to explore the potential for a relationship between Jane and Lisbon. The threat of [Lisbon] parting in a way has been able to give it its due and be able to play it out properly, as opposed to just a sprinkle here and there."
While it is unknown whether or not the long-time friends will take their relationship to a more romantic level, or even if it would work out in the long run, Tunney informed The Hollywood Reporter can "expect closure" from the season 6 finale.
