Is Peter Capaldi Returning To Pompeii Or 'Planet Of Fire'? Why Is 'Doctor Who' Filming At Lanzarote?

The iconic BBC series moved production to the volcanic Spanish island last week and rumors quickly spread that the newest iteration of the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) would be traveling back to Italy in order to explain his appearance in season 5's "Fires of Pompeii." However, recent photos from the program's return to Cardiff indicate that Twelve and his companions will spend the Peter Harness penned episode somewhere that requires spacesuits.

The Doctor's bright orange spacesuits have reemerged for a second time during season 8 filming, and this time they are being worn by Twelve, Clara (Jenna Louise Coleman), and Ellis George (character unknown). The trio spent some time filming by the beach on Wednesday alongside Hermione Norris, according to Doctor Who TV.

Is The Time Lord Really Half Human On 'Doctor Who'? Should His Lineage Be Mentioned In New 'Who'?

While the title for the episode has yet to be revealed, showrunner Steven Moffat previously dropped a few hints regarding the plot and possible connections to 1984's "Planet of Fire."

For the first time since 1984, the Doctor Who production team is heading to Lanzarote," Moffat informed the BBC. "The Doctor is returning to the scene of an old adventure - but there have been sinister changes since his last visit."
