John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling, spoke with Variety magazine and revealed that the ending will definitely be explosive. The cast has two more episodes to tape and without dropping too many spoilers, Slattery told the publication that it will be filled with drama for Sterling Cooper & Partners ad agency.
"It's starting to sink in. You do a scene now with someone and you think, 'I wonder if I'm gonna see this person again.' We're all kind of standing here scratching our heads wondering how it's going to end, and it's bringing up all kinds of questions while we shoot.
I'm trying to parse everything and not give anything away, but we just started shooting it, and it's amazing. Each script now you go, 'Oh, that's where we're headed.' He confirmed that it's "one of the best scripts" ever. He also opened up about Roger's relationship with his ex-wife Mona. While it's totally platonic, she is still the only person who can put him in his place.
"[Joan] can talk to him in a way no one else can. He's walking around that office and people have to treat him with deference. Mona just tells him to shut up."
He also spoke on their chemistry on the set when the cameras stop rolling. While she is always seen as "the new guy" with the producers and other crew members, she's definitely making her mark on the show.
"Working together is really fun, and Mona is such a funny character. They complement each other really well, Mona and Roger."
