Edgar Wright will no longer be directing Marvel's Ant-Man.

In a surprising move, the Shaun of the Dead creator has backed out of the Phase Three project due to creative differences, according to Deadline.

A statement released by Marvel Studios explains that the director and the famed comic book studio parted ways "amicably" but "due to differences in their vision of the film."

Although no one has yet been selected to take Wright's place, Marvel Studios claims that this major speed bump will not alter the film's July 17, 2015 release date.

As many fans are aware, Wright has been involved with the Ant-Man project since 2006, a fact which makes his departure all the more unexpected. Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Robert Downey Jr. even hit the screen in 2008's Iron Man, a lot has been staked on Ant-Man and its creator.

"We changed, frankly some of the MCU to accommodate this version of Ant-Man," said Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' president of production, according to Empire (via The Mary Sue). "Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar [Wright] and with Ant-Man, going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for Avengers the first time. It was a bit of both in terms of his idea for the Ant-Man story influencing the birth of the MCU in the early films leading up to Avengers."

Will Wright's departure unravel the mass amount of planning that went into Ant-Man? Marvelites will probably find out much more when a new director is announced.
