'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Star-Lord Is 'Han Solo Meets Marty McFly'? Chris Pratt Dishes On Marvel's New Space Endeavor [VIDEO]
Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel Studios first stab at a non-Avengers film, and actor Chris Pratt believes the audiences relative unfamiliarity with Star-Lord and his crew is a boon to production.
Pratt will portray Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) - a half-human intergalactic thief of little renown - who falls in with a ragtag team of unlikely heroes in order to keep a stolen orb from the villainous Ronan (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillian). Without the Avengers title hanging over their heads, director James Gunn and the Guardians cast were able to create their film without too much fear of upsetting peoples' over demanding preconceptions.
"Think of the prequels that came out," Pratt told MTV. "There's a lot of expectations there, and to shoulder a project with preconceived notions, expectations and all these things, it really makes it difficult. It makes it difficult if you spend the whole movie trying to satisfy what people think they know about a character. The first Star Wars didn't have that problem, because it was all brand new. You just take it for what it is."
'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Thanos Casting, Kevin Feige Talks New Actor
Speaking of Star Wars and other sci-fi greats, Gunn has claimed that Pratt's Quill will resonate with fans as a Han Solo/Marty McFly hybrid.
"I've heard Kevin Feige say he thought the stuff he's looking at is like Han Solo meets Marty McFly," Pratt explained, according to MTV, later adding that, ""I think if an actor can stick to trying to make the character resemble something from their own spirit, it will automatically be unique. It's not necessarily going to be trying to be Han Solo, or trying to be Marty McFly, or trying to be any other character you've seen before. It's like, 'This is me in this role.'"
