'The Blacklist' NBC: Was Red At Liz's Childhood Fire? What Do Reddington's Scares Imply? [VIDEO]
The Blacklist's Liz Keen has one clue to her past, but details of the traumatic childhood fire that left her fatherless became even more muddled during the season finale.
Will Alan Alda Return To 'The Blacklist' As Fitch? Execs Explains Red & Fitch's Uneasy Partnership
A slightly charred bunny and a scar on her hand are all that Liz (Megan Boone) has to remind her of her biological father and the night he (allegedly) lost his life while pulling her safely from the flames. Unfortunately for the grown-up Liz, she now has two conflicting theories as to what really happened to her father.
According to her duplicitous husband, dead old Dad is alive. According to the FBI's slippery master criminal, he is quite dead. So who should Liz believe? Perhaps she should lean towards Red's (James Spader) account, particularly now that it appears he may have been at the scene of the fire.
Is Tom Keen Really Dead? Ryan Eggold Dishes On Possible Return To 'The Blacklist'
"All we really know about her biological father is that he saved her life that night and he did it by reaching into the fire that was engulfing her," explained executive producer John Eisendrath during an episode of Beyond the Blacklist. "We know she has a scar, likely from that fire, and we do reveal at the end of the episode that, in fact, Red is similarly scarred. The viewers can draw whatever conclusions they like from that fact."
Mr. Eisendrath has certainly left the matter up to the imagination, but there is one thing he appears to be adamant about - Red has definitely told Liz he is not her father.
"In the middle of the season, she asked him point blank, 'Are you my father,' and he said no," Eisendrath said. "I though that would satisfy everybody but everybody's like, 'Oh, we don't believe that's the truth.'"
Baring the possibility that Red really somehow is Liz's father, what was he doing at their residence? Find out when The Blacklist returns to NBC next fall.
