Although there is little known about the upcoming project, it is believed that Strange will follow the embattled Ant-Man as the second release of Phase Three. If this is true, the film would mark the third non-Avengers film to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Just like Guardians of the Galaxy will open up the far corners of the universe for Marvel's heroes, Doctor Strange will provide a chance for the studio to explore a more magic-based world.
"[Doctor Strange is] a great standalone character," said Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president of production, according to Entertainment Weekly. "And that world of pure magic, we haven't done yet."
However, fans have several Marvel films to wade through before Doctor Strange can hit theaters. Guardians of the Galaxy will debut on Aug. 1 (see video below), The Avengers: Age of Ultron will arrive on May 1, and Ant-Man is expected to drop on July 17, 2015.
