'Law And Order: SVU' Season 16: Premiere Date Revealed, Show Almost Didn't Return After Season 15? [VIDEO]
Law and Order: SVU fans have to wait for Season 16, but fortunately NBC has released the premiere date for the veteran drama.
Will Olivia Benson Finally Be Happy?
NBC has just revealed that Law and Order: SVU will return on Wednesday, September 24 at 9 p.m. EST. The show will follow the new drama The Mysteries of Laura with Debra Messing (Mariska Hargitay's BFF). After Law and Order SVU, Chicago PD returns.
Before the official renewal for the hit show, there were rumors that Law and Order: SVU may not come back. In April, there were rumors that creator Dick Wolf had been asked to take a pay cut for SVU to come back, something Deadline reported Wolf was "unwilling" to do. The original Law and Order went off the air after an amazing 20 seasons.
Is Declan Murphy Staying On Law and Order SVU?
Star Hargitay (Olivia Benson) is getting special notice for her role in Season 15, which finally presented her character the chance to be a mother. Although, Benson got her baby Noah at the end of last season, Season 16 doesn't start off so smooth because Benson is looking for who killed Noah's biological mom. Benson reportedly receives help in that department from an "old friend."
Another person not having a smooth start is Det. Amaro (Danny Pino) after his arrest last season. "Season 16 does not start him off on the SVU squad," showrunner Warren Leight told TV Guide about Amaro's fate. "He's been sent to the bowels of Queens to do traffic stops."
