‘Indiana Jones 5’ Rumors: Harrison Ford Wanted His ‘Star Wars’ Character To Die So He’d Be Free To Shoot More Films? [PHOTOS]
Though rumors continue to surface that he won't be returning for a rumored Indiana Jones 5, Harrison Ford has reportedly expressed so much interest in the role that he has previously asked to have his other famous role in the Star Wars franchise written out of the series.
Robert Pattinson Replacing Harrison Ford For 'Indiana Jones 5?'
George Lucas, who previously worked with Ford in the first three Star Wars films, recently revealed that Ford asked him to kill his Han Solo character during the fifth installment of the series.
Lucas revealed that when Han Solo was frozen and sealed in carbonite during the film, Ford demanded the character be killed off.
Other Actors Being Considered For 'Indiana Jones 5?'
"Harrison kept yelling through the whole thing, 'Kill me! Kill me! Kill me!," Lucas recalled to Metro UK June 8. "I said, 'Harrison, I can't kill you. I need you at the end of the next movie. There's this love thing going on. But I'll do the next best thing. I'll put you in a slab of concrete and ship you off to Mars."
Though Lucas wouldn't kill Han Solo, rumors have surfaced that the character could be killed off at the end of Star Wars: Episode VII, which would free him up for Indiana Jones 5.
Ford has been vocal about his preference to play Indiana Jones over his famed Han Solo character, and has express contempt for the famous Star Wars persona.
"He's dumb as a stump," the actor said back in 2008. "He's got a good heart, but I think he's certainly a much less interesting character than Indiana Jones.
"The breadth of his story utility was never extensive," he continued. "He was the foil between the other more compelling elements of the film, between the sage old warrior and the young hero. There's not much breadth of character to explore beyond what we got out of him."
Reports circulated in February that Ford wasn't willing to sign on to play Han Solo again unless Disney would let him be contracted again for not only Indiana Jones 5, but a sixth film as well.
"Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford's contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn't 'publicly' or 'privately' commit, or so I'm told," a source told MarketSaw back in February.
If Ford refused to sign on to Star Wars until he had worked out a separate deal for the Indiana Jones franchise, fans could potentially expect an announcement for the film soon.
