Austin Mahone 2014: ‘The Secret’ Failure? New Album Sales Disappoint Record Label [VIDEO]
Is Austin Mahone's new EP The Secret a failure? Despite being one of the most famous pop stars around and having millions of fans called Mahomies, is Mahone's career doomed to fail?
Is Austin Mahone Over The Justin Bieber Comparisons?
While The Secret debuted on the Billboard 200 at number five, it quickly dropped after its first week. "The kid can close down any mall in America," Republic Records executive Avery Lipman said during a New Music Seminar this week, "but we are struggling to sell a meaningful amount of records." The record sold 46,000 according to Nielson SoundScan and was number one on iTunes for a short period.
Using a golf analogy, Lipman said, "It sounds good, looks good; goes right in the weeds."
Which Pop Sensation Does Austin Mahone Have A Crush On?
Despite the number, the Mahone train is chugging along. The 18-year-old has over six million Twitter followers and is getting ready for a headlining summer tour starting in July.
Mahone recently sang the national anthem during the NBA Finals in his home state of Texas, sure to give him more exposure to those who aren't just teen girls.
Although, Mahone recently dismissed critics who compared him to Justin Bieber, the Mmm Yeah singer may want to take some hints from the bad boy of pop music, since Bieber's debut My World sold over 137,000 copies in its first week. All of Bieber's albums have gone gold, platinum, or multi-platinum and continued to sell way after their first week.
