The Vikings will met up with Emperor Charles of France and Princess Gisla when Ragnar leads his men against Paris in season 3.

Will Horik's Son Come Back To Haunt Ragnar On 'Vikings'? Michael Hirst Talks Dangers Of Letting The Prince Live

The new King of Denmark will have his eyes set on the banks of the Seine River when viewers catch up with him next year. As the Viking leader seeks to expand his kingdom, he will have to go head to head with Lothaire Bluteau's Emperor Charles and his daughter Princess Gisla, as played by Morgane Polanski.

Luckily for Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), his recent rise to power will provide him with an army fit for the challenge (see video below).

"Halfway through season three, we're going to attack Paris - there's a famous Vikings attack on the city of Paris," explained series creator Michael Hirst, according to Entertainment Weekly. "And they attacked with 120 ships. So this new season, we go from eight ships to 120 ships. You have to go up in scale."

Vikings isn't all bloodshed, however, and the Emperor and his family will undoubtedly be featured on and off the battlefield.

"And so for me, it's another great wonderful challenge, because the two main things in Vikings which run parallel are the visceral element of it, and the battle of politics," Hirst said of the new characters and setting. "And the other side of it is the personal side and the family side."
