Hannibal's eponymous villain is in the wind, but he is not alone.
Instead, the cannibalistic psychologist hopped a plane to Europe with Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). With an intellect to rival Hannibal's (Mads Mikkelsen), what will Du Maurier get up to in season 3?
"That is part of her role in season three is what does she expect to be getting out of this situation that continues to keep her intelligent and not just a dummy that is going along with the sexy, serial killer for reasons that are carnal. That's not what we want," explained series creator Bryan Fuler, according to the A.V. Club.
Du Maurier won't be blindly traipsing after her psychotic friend/patient. Rather, the retired psychiatrist may take the trip as an opportunity to study Hannibal's warped mind at length.
"This is an opportunity, actually, for her to study something so wholly unique in the lexicon of humanity out in the wild," Fuller continued. "Out in its natural environment. So I think those first episodes of season three will go a long way in rationalizing and explaining exactly what Bedelia wants and expects out of the situation and how she's going to continue to be as smart, if not smarter, than Hannibal Lecter."
