'Teen Wolf' Season 4 Premiere: How Will Malia Jump Into High School After 8 Years In The Wild? Shelly Hennig Explains [VIDEO]
Teen Wolf's Malia Tate spent eight years as a feral coyote in the woods of Beacon Hills, and now the 16-year-old Beacon Hills resident is jumping straight back into regular life.
'Romance Takes A Back Seat' For Lydia On 'Teen Wolf'; Stiles & Malia Won't Have An Easy Relationship
Interestingly enough, Malia's (Shelly Hennig) new life outside of the forest involves moving form the third grade right on up to eleventh. Luckily, Henning has a few answers for those who think her advancement through secondary education is a bit unbelievable.
"I think it's one of those TV things that you kind of don't pay attention to," Henning told Hollywood Life with a laugh. "I think that Stiles [Dylan O'Brien] is there helping her, and Lydia [Holland Roden] - she's the smart one, the book smart one in the group. So, Lydia has been very helpful. I think she's been helping Malia stay afloat, but it's not easy for Malia."

Unfortunately, adjusting to homework and exams won't be the only obstacle Malia has to face in her human life. The werecoyote will also have to deal with the guilt of killing her mother and sister for the first time ever.
There's always guilt there for her, which is something that she didn't feel as a coyote, because she wasn't human; she didn't feel emotions," Hennig explained. "And that's my favorite part about Malia, is that she's, for the first time in years, experiencing human emotions. So, with that, she's really feeling the guilt. And it comes up here and there, just like any tragedies in our lives - they go away and they come back, there's a reminder, and it goes away again... so, she definitely struggles with that."
