It was announced yesterday that Pentatonix has joined the cast of Pitch Perfect 2.

Elizabeth Banks Releases Pitch Perfect 2 Candid Photos

The five person a cappella group rose to fame after winning NBC's talent competition The Sing-Off. The group is made up of Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola. The performers will play a rival a cappella group that will go up against the Barden University group around which the original 2012 Pitch Perfect was based.

The sequel will be directed by creator Elizabeth Banks, who also holds a supporting role. Most of the original cast is returning for the sequel, though fans will likely be in for a few surprises.

Pitch Perfect 2 Might Eclipse The Original Hit

“We’re wearing some pretty interesting things,” Pentatonix's Hoying told Entertainment Weekly. “You can definitely tell it’s the five of us, but what we’re wearing and who we’re portraying is definitely not Pentatonix.”

The real-life a cappella singers have had ties to the film from the very beginning. They sang at the Pitch Perfect premiere in 2012 and the musical arrangement for the NBC series that launched them to stardom is done by the same arrangers for the Pitch Perfect sequel.

The singers only spent one day on set and confirmed that they didn't have any dialogue, jokingly adding that is was probably a good thing they just stick to the singing. Regardless, the group considered the opportunity an incredible experience and are sure fans will be pleased with the result.

"You're going to love it," Grassi assured audiences.

Pitch Perfect 2 hits theatres Spring 2015.
