According to Deadline, across all four showings of the vampire drama, True Blood averaged 5.8 million viewers, up from 5.6 million viewers last season. Word-of-mouth among fans could have also catapulted the shows numbers, as fan favorite Tara (Rutina Wesley) suffered a shocking demise in the season opener.

"It was kind of crazy. I was like, 'Wow, OK!' But that's what makes it True Blood," Wesley told TVGuide.com . "We're in our final season. We have to keep it bloody. Somebody's gotta go!"

"I was OK with it," Wesley said about Tara dying on the drama. "I'm sad. It's kind of bittersweet because I'm going to miss everybody, but on to bigger and better things. It's been a wild ride so far."

Although Wesley has said that Tara is without a doubt dead, the actress wouldn't confirm that audiences would never see her character again. "She's dead," Wesley told Entertainment Weekly. "But I can tease that dead doesn't always mean gone on True Blood."

With the rumors about a True Blood musical coming up after the show wraps it's seventh season, as well, Wesley said she would definitely be interested in bringing Tara back for the Broadway stage. "I love to sing," Wesley said. "Musicals are my favorite. I'm a musical theater buff. I grew up in the theater-that's my love, my passion."

True Blood airs on HBO Sunday night's at 9 p.m.
