Earlier this month it was announced that Showtime's Penny Dreadful had been picked up for a second season, consisting of ten episodes instead of this year's eight.

Penny Dreadful To Reveal Werewolf Origins?

With the show's first season coming to a close and a second season on the horizon, audiences are beginning to wonder who will survive this Sunday's finale. The Victorian drama already shocked viewers when the creature Caliban (Rory Kinnear), literary, ripped Proteus (Alex Price) in half. The show is not afraid to spill blood, though one character who just might make it out alive is Vanessa Ives (Eva Green).

The battle for Miss Ives' soul has been a big part of the program so far. At times it has even seemed that her death is eminent, but recently when Green spoke to IGN (featured below) about production, it sounded as if her part on the show might not just be over yet.

Is Mina Harker Doomed On Penny Dreadful?

In describing her character, Green almost didn't know where to begin. "She is so many things," explained the actress, "it's kind of hard to speak about her, because she's her own person, and she is a spiritualist and you know she seems very calm, very smooth on the surface, but she has all these cracks inside her."

As for continuing on the show, Green seemed all for it. "It's [production] extremely emotional and I gave my heart and soul to this first season," she said, "So I hope it will work out."

With Green's positive attitude in spite of the grueling emotional and physical nature of the role, Green admitted to wearing a jacket during the interview because she was covered in bruises from filming, indicating that she is interested in returning next season.

With Green onboard, it is left to the writers not to kill off Miss Ives, but in a world such as Penny Dreadful's, anything is possible.

The season finale of Penny Dreadful airs on Showtime this Sunday, June 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
