While Switched at Birth has been focusing on the Bay-Emmett relationship, it turns out that the remainder of the series will have a big story looming around the parents.

A Tragedy Will Take Place When Someone Goes Into 'Critical Condition'

On Sunday, TV Line posted an interview with executive producer Lizzy Weiss, who revealed that something "fun" is about to happen between Kathryn and John while they're at a book party.

"There's a lot of mom and dad stuff this season," Weiss said. "That empty nest is really looming now. The family is really the core of this season and getting back to class, race, different ways of parenting."

The producer then mentioned that some complicated questions will be coming up for Bay and Daphne when it comes to applying for college. Their parents are going to have to make some difficult decisions between their daughters.

"Who's going to pay for college between the two families?" Weiss said. "Latina scholarships -- who gets to apply? Bay or Daphne? Just really interesting questions that we've asked ourselves a lot over the years and finally had a chance to explore in the story."

It turns out that Marlee Matlin's character Melody is going to have her own story as well, involving the handsome doctor.

"We kept wanting to get back to them, but we never had time. Noe we do," Weiss said. "We have a big episode for them early [on]. My rule is as much Marlee Matlin as possible."

Switched at Birth airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
