David Tennant spent much of the spring in Victoria, British Columbia, the setting for Fox's Gracepoint. With it's rocky coastlines and local small towns the landscape is far more ingrained in the story than most would expect.

Gracepoint, Fox's reimagining of ITV's Broadchurch, is the story of two detectives, a close community, and the mystery of a young boy's death. Tennant, who plays the role of Detective Emmett Carver, believes the town of Gracepoint is more than just a name on a map.

"The series is called Gracepoint, and Gracepoint the place is very much a character in the piece," Tennant said in a Fox featurette, adding, "What Gracepoint is, and where Gracepoint is, so informs the way that everyone there behaves and how that community exists and thrives and then consequently splinters and fractures. You need the location to be just right."

Luckily for the cast and crew, Victoria provided a nearly perfect atmosphere for their story.

"It's one of those places where you have four seasons in one day, which works rather well for our story," Tennant explained. "You go from these beautiful days where the sky is the bluest of blues and then three hours later it'll be the grayest of grays and you're in this very dark, tempestuous world. Because our story traverses the spectrum of emotion, it's quite interesting to be filming in a climate that traverses its own spectrum."
