With casting for True Detective's second season on HBO still unconfirmed, fans are having a bit of fun for themselves with hypothetical casting decisions.

'True Detective' Season 2 Casting Rumors

True Detective Rumors continues to post "dream casting" suggestions on a daily basis. The site has rallied for Ewan McGregor (The Impossible), Bradley Cooper (The Words) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men). The latest addition to this is HBO alum Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire).

While Pitt is currently playing a recurring role on NBC's Hannibal, he is best known for bringing Jimmy Darmody to life on HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

With Pitt's talent for "quiet menace", Rueben Levine argues for True Detective rumors that Pitt would be the perfect choice to bring a "playful" quality that has yet to be seen with leads in the series. This is especially in contrast to the darkly grounded Rust Cohle (Mathew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson). Rueben admits that it doesn't seem likely HBO will cast Pitt for the series, but it would make for an interesting development.

Creator Nice Pizzolatto Gives 'Homework' To 'True Detective' Stars

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is keeping mum on details for the latest scripts, which have already been written and turned in to HBO.

While Pizzolatto might not be giving away any secrets, he did open up at the Banff World Media Festival last month about the craft of writing and its relationship to the show (featured below).

"I'm just trying to make it right by my own standards and the content of what I've created helps me determine what the standards are," explained Pizzolatto. "The best thing you can walk in with is good work... and confronting who you are as a creator".

True Detective returns to HBO for a second season January 2015.
