The supernatural, Victorian drama Penny Dreadful recently finished up its premiere season on Showtime. The series returns next year for a second, longer, season that it bound to bring more trouble for the show's cast of colorful characters.

'Penny Dreadful' Could Be Toning Down The 'Gore'

Actor Reeve Carney recently sat down with TV Line to discuss the show's finale. "They [showrunners] leave you wanting more," explained Carney, who portrays Dorian Gray on the show, "Which is a good thing."

While Carney said nothing of season two's plot, he did indicate that Gray and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) might maintain their "connection" as the series continues. "I think that he's drawn to her in a way that he's not drawn to anyone else," admitted Carney. "Even from the first meeting, there was something there, something unique."

'Penny Dreadful' Creator Boasts 'New Adventure' For Season 2

"I would say that they're [Gray and Ives] disenfranchised from the world around them," the actor continued, "More so than even any of the other characters. There's something about those two particular characters; there's a sense of liberation and freedom that they tend to walk in that I think unites them in a way."

Miss Ives chose to end things with Dorian at the conclusion of season one, claiming that their "rare connection" unleashed something inside of her which put everything and everyone at risk. While she did not speak of the demonic possession with which she struggled after their last encounter, she was firm in her decision. Unfamiliar with "rejection," Dorian was left hurt and confused by her sudden departure from his life. Could the two meet again in season two? Will they be able to deny their "rare connection?"

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
