The CW is known as a network often shut out of the Emmys, but this year The Originals managed to nab a nomination.

The series, a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries, was nominated under Outstanding Hairstyling for a Multi-Camera Series or Special for Colleen Labaff and Kimberly Spiteri's work in season one, episode twelve Dance Back From The Grave. The supernatural drama will be going up against programs like HBO's Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
The network received only one other nomination, Outstanding Special And Visual Effects for the new science fiction drama The 100.
Viking Flashback Coming To 'The Originals' This Fall
Producer Julie Plec voiced her surprise and excitement over The Originals nomination yesterday on Twitter yesterday. "Well hot damn!" she declared. "Someone's magnificent little hair department broke the CW's Emmy nomination curse. Congrats Colleen and Kim! #TheOriginals".
Over the years fans have expressed discontent over The CW's meek presence at the Emmys, claiming show like Supernatural and Gilmore Girls were snubbed for their network rather than the quality of their content.
Between award nominations an events, The Originals will certainly be keeping busy leading up to its October return. The series is still in the process of filming season two and the cast will be appearing at this year's San Diego Comic Con July 25th for a panel and signing.
The Originals returns to The CW for a second season Monday, October 6th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
