Boardwalk Empire now has a season five premiere date, marking the beginning of the end for the HBO prohibition drama.

E! announced yesterday afternoon that the final season of Terrence Winter's period drama will start Sunday, September 7th on HBO. The series will be picking up in the year 1931, seven years after the close of the previous season.
While the current cast of the program are keeping relatively quiet on the fate of some favorite characters, actor Michael Pitt, who played Jimmy Darmody for the first few seasons, opened up a little about what he would like to see happen on the show.

Jimmy was Nucky Thompson's (Steve Buscemi) right-hand-man until Jimmy betrayed his mentor, which led to the infamous scene in which Nucky shot Pitt's character through the head, killing him.
"I think my son should assassinate Nucky Thompson," Pitt told E! when asked about the series. Last season, Jimmy's son was sent out of Atlantic City for a better life by Darmody's friend Richard Harrow (Jack Huston).
"My son is about eleven now," figured Pitt. "Yeah, he needs to assassinate Nucky."
As for his time on the series, Pitt recalled a scene with Aleska Palladino as being his favorite. Palladino played Jimmy's wife, Angela, who was killed a few episodes before Jimmy by a man looking to murder her husband. The scene he recalled was one in which the two met after a long time apart.
Pitt went on to admit that he misses the show, which he left in 2011, though soon the entire of the cast will be able to make this claim as the series draws to a close.
Boardwalk Empire returns to HBO for a fifth and final season September 7th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
