Penny Dreadful just finished out its first season on Showtime and next month production will begin on the Victorian drama's second season.

"Rare Connection" On Penny Dreadful Drawing Dorian Gray & Vanessa Ives Together

Early last month it was announced that series had been renewed by the network, with a season of ten episodes instead of this year's eight. This means filming for the new season will begin sooner than fans might have thought.

According to the Irish Independent, production for season two is set to begin in August and actor Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor, 30 Days Of Night) is expected to return to the Shelbourne Hotel in Ireland, which is where he resided while they filmed the show's first season.

'Penny Dreadful' Could Be Toning Down The 'Gore'

The 35-year-old actor spent his spare time roaming around Dublin, occasionally accompanied by his 25-year-old visiting girlfriend, actress Tamsin Egerton (The Look Of Love, Grand Piano).

While Penny Dreadful takes place in Victorian England, the series shoots primarily in Ireland. Showtime's decision to film the show's first season there resulted in a number of cast and crew jobs and provided a boost to the Irish economy.

Before returning to Ireland, however, the cast will make a stop in San Diego to appear at Comic-Con. Creator John Logan, along with Hartnett, Reeve Carney, and Harry Treadaway will participate in a panel on Thursday, July 24. The panel will also include a Q & A session, perhaps even revealing details about the upcoming season.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
