With so much speculation circling about the cast of True Detective's second season on HBO next year, it has become difficult for fans to take any news seriously. However, HBO executives recently announced that the formal news could go public as early as this week, and it seems a name has popped up that might actually stay.

'True Detective' Receives 12 Emmy Nominations

According to Deadline on Friday, actor Colin Farrell (In Bruges, Saving Mr. Banks) is "in deep negotiations" to join the series for next year.

The 38-year-old Irishman would be the first big Hollywood name added to this season of the show, though the first season was helmed by actors Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club) and Woody Harrelson (No Country For Old Men, The Hunger Games), both of whom were nominated for this years Emmys for their performances.

'Exciting' New 'True Detective' Scripts Are In For Season 2

HBO has yet to confirm or deny Farrell's involvement with the series, though confirmation is likely to come by the end of the week.

Creator and writer of the program Nic Pizzolatto has remained tight-lipped on details for season two, though he has confirmed that the show will take place in California this season, with potentially two male leads and one female lead.

HBO president Michael Lombardo confirmed last week that the first two scripts have already been handed in and are possibly more "exciting" than the show's first season.

True Detective returns for a second season on HBO in early 2015.
