'Once Upon a Time' Season 4 Premiere: Captain Hook & Emma's Relationship Possibly Based On 'Tangled' [VIDEO]
There may be a hidden storyline going on in ABC's Once Upon a Time without most fans even knowing it, and it involves Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue).
The relationship between Emma and Hook may not be as original as once thought, as MoviePilot published an article Monday claiming that the characters are going through the storyline of Disney's 2010 film Tangled, with inspiration from the Tumblr page cmschneids. The article shows several shot-for-shot scenes comparing Tangled characters Rapunzel and Flynn and Once Upon a Time's Emma and Hook. The shots with Emma and Hook look very similar to those in Tangled.
However, there are more comparisons than just on the surface level. The arc of their relationship is also remarkably similar. Both Rapunzel and Emma have long blond hair and both were taken from their parents. Both characters then meet their respective men, who are both "untrustworthy thieves" who wind up helping their women.

Both stories feature the respective couples arguing and going from "on again" to "off again" at several points.
With so much overlap between the two stories, in addition to the similarities between the shots from each work, it seems that the producers of Once Upon a Time at least drew inspiration from Tangled.
A Rapunzel character, played by Alexandra Metz, actually appeared in the third season of Once Upon a Time, though she only appeared in one episode.
Once Upon a Time Season 4 debuts in the fall on ABC, though the network has not yet made an announcement on when it will return, specifically. It will be returning to its regular Sundays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
