Charlie Sheen has quit Twitter on Friday. The Anger Management star had announced his intention to quit the social networking site less than two days ago, and he officially went offline on Friday.

Sheen's decision will disappoint his millions of followers who have gotten used to receiving Sheen's lively and often hilarious tweets. In just over a year of having his Twitter account he has amassed an impressive 7.7 million followers due to his antics.

In his final and departing tweet Sheen said, "Reach for the stars everyone. Dogspeed cadre. c out."

Sheen has been part of the Twittersphere since March 2011, and received hoards of followers by posting high profile tweets in the aftermath of his firing from hit TV show Two and a Half Men.

The actor was fired last year from Two and a Half Men after publicly chastising his bosses.

On Twitter his devout followers were treated to regular entertaining tweets on all sorts of issues; Sheen can be accused of many things, but being boring is not one of them, and he has continually entertained his fans with his rebellious character.

Sheen has used his Twitter account most recently to plug his new show Anger Management. The show's first series opened recently and received relatively warm reviews. It is a matter of time, however, to see whether he can reach the same heights as Two and a Half Men.

Sheen did not give any official reason for quitting Twitter, but it is believed he thought he no longer was getting anything out of it, and the responsibility of keeping eager fans entertained may have taken up too much of his time as he attempts to re-launch his TV career.

Charlie Sheen has told TMZ, "Thank you all for your amazing support. Trust me when I say please 'follow' me to my next endeavor. It's gonna be epic."

The Hollywood actor is just the latest in a long line of celebrities who have given up the social networking site, and it tends to be a way for celebrities to bring themselves back into the spotlight and get some more attention.
