Beyoncé has been pop music royalty for a long time, especially by the standards of pop music.

Beyoncé Tops Forbes Celebrity 100

If this year's nominations for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards are any indication, Queen Bey isn't close to abdicating her throne. As HitFix reports, Beyoncé leads all nominees with eight nods were multiple videos.

Her video for Drunk in Love, featuring her husband Jay Z, is up for Video of the Year, and that song also got her a nomination for Best Collaboration. A different song, Partition, got her the nomination for Best Female. Beyonce is also up for the very MTV award Best Video with a Social Message for Pretty Hurts.

Beyoncé Drops New Album

The rest of the nominations are for technical awards, which probably aren't going to generate a ton of interest from the MTV audience. Pretty Hurts and Partition are both up for a couple of those awards, with the latter up for Best Choreography, which is perhaps a bit more relevant to the viewing audience than, say, Best Editing.

Beyoncé made a big splash when she dropped her recent self-titled album unannounced, along with several music videos. So, clearly, there were a lot of videos to choose from when the MTV VMAs rolled around. Given how well received her album was, and these eight nominations, clearly the release of Beyoncé was a success. Ms. Knowles' main competition seems to be Iggy Azalea, who is up for seven awards, including several for"Fancy. This year's Video Music Awards are taking place Sunday, August 24 in Los Angeles on MTV.
