After kicking off filming for season 3 with a host of sailing scenes, the History Channel series is currently taking over the fields of Ireland with new battle sequences. Of course, it wouldn't be a proper fight without the requisite blood.

Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) will take on his new enemies with a striking blood-red handprint across his face while his mother's blouse will be drenched in the substance.

"Don't mess with me. #Lagertha #behindthescenes #inamood #Vikings," Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha) tweeted on Wednesday alongside a picture of herself donning Viking face tattoos as blood dripped from her chin.

Meanwhile, wielding a shield and sword takes an incredible amount of practice for the series' actors and Gaia Weiss (Porunn) recently learned this the hard way.

"My legs are covered in bruises. Working on my shield coordination. Learning with my character," Weiss tweeted on Saturday.
