'Guardians of the Galaxy' Movie News: Director James Gunn Coming Back For A Sequel If It 'Does Well' [VIDEO]
With Guardians of the Galaxy finally hitting theaters on August 1, and the tracking stats and critic reactions being great so far, will a return to these characters be imminent and will director James Gunn be in charge of it again?

Speaking with The Adam Carolla Show on Thursday, Gunn said he would be up to do another sequel but he has already started getting offers to do other things that sound interesting as well.
"I'm actually in a somewhat weird position," Gunn said. "Because if the movie does well, then I'm gonna make the sequel. And if it does okay then, well, I've already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don't do the sequel, so it's a weird situation."
As of now, a sequel has to be somewhat assured for the movie after tracking stats showed that it is expected to make around $60 million during the first weekend and Marvel just announced on Friday that they have a slew of untitled projects set on specific dates from now until May 2019.
Right now, the number of untitled projects by Marvel is around seven. These don't include sequels to Thor and the next Avengers movie so a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy seems within the realm of possibility.
At the same time, Gunn may not want to be tied down to the Marvel mold, or the studio may want to try some new blood for the second installment. This movie was made with director Kenneth Branagh after the first Thor and Joe Johnston after the first Captain America. It also worked for the studio after the sequels went on to do just as well, if not better, than the first movies.
Either way, Gunn has created a successful blockbuster film possibly and should open up the gates for more James Gunn content in the future, which is a win for all of us.
